For this engagement session, we took our adorable couple, Julia and John, to the Postcard Inn in St. Pete Beach. Because it was a rainy day, this hotel turned out to be the most ideal location for our shoot. With its unique and rustic beach-flair, it provided the perfect atmosphere for Julia and John’s lovely personalities. We started inside the hotel and the minute we were ready to hop outside for some shots around the hotel and on the gorgeous white beach, it stopped raining. It couldn’t have worked out any better that day.
In the past, we have experienced rain and thunderstorms trying to get between us and our well-planned photo shoots. (Duh! We’re in Florida. Daily rain should come as no surprise!) But we don’t let this stop us from trying to create an extraordinarily great product for our clients. And we have to say we are exceptionally happy about how well the images of this engagement shoot turned out.
While many would say the weather was poor, overcast days can be a huge advantage for photographers, especially when shooting in a place like Florida where the sun is extremely bright and the light is somewhat harsh. The clouds create a beautiful soft light as they act as a huge natural light diffuser that covers the sun. Subjects are evenly lit, skin tones are smooth, and the photographer is able to position his subjects almost anywhere without having to pay too much attention on how the light is falling on the subjects. One can get some wonderful images.
That being said, we are very much looking forward to Julia and John’s wedding at the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg this August!
